11-19-18 (Pre-Season)
Class A |
Week # Pre-Season 11/19/18 |
#1) Millard South |
#2) Millard North |
#3) Lincoln SW |
#4) Papillion-LaVista |
#5) Westside |
#6) Lincoln High |
#7) Lincoln Northeast |
#8) Pius |
#9) Marian |
#10) Benson |
First two teams out: Fremont, Northwest |
Comments: Top 5 was unanimous on all coaches rankings. Millard South returns all but 8ppg from last years state runner up team including two of the best in the state in Maddie Krull and Jayme Horan. Millard North returns every one from last years team and has the most talented team in state from top to bottom. Lincoln Southwest returns the majority of it’s team from last year and is lead by Hannah Kelle and Jaden Ferguson. Papillion returns the bulk of their scoring from a team that was seconds away from the state semis. Westside returns quite a bit from their state championship team, but did lose Gatorade POY Quinn Weidemann. They will look much stronger in February once they are 100% healthy. Lincoln High returns a strong core from last years state tourney team, lead by Nyayongah Gony and added transfer Kaysia Woods (Lincoln Northeast). Lincoln Northeast has a strong senior class and does get All State guard McKenna Minter back from a knee injury. Lincoln Pius is always tough and has strong post play. Marian looks to continue to make strides they have a good nucleus of sophomores and juniors. Benson is very talented lead by Quinesha Lockett. Fremont is lead by Emma Shepard and has a very strong Freshman class, but may be a year or two away. Northwest returns a vast majority of their team from last year and will pull some upsets. |
Class B |
Week # Pre-Season 11/19/18 |
#1) South Sioux City |
#2) Elkhorn South |
#3) Seward |
#4) Elkhorn |
#5) Waverly |
#6) Crete |
#7) Omaha Skutt |
#8) GINW |
#9) Beatrice |
#10) Sidney |
First two teams out: Hastings, York Comments: The top three teams were all listed 1-3 on all ballots, a total of 15 schools received votes. Class B will be very competitive again this year SSC returns nearly everyone from last year’s state runner-up team including senior all-state PG McKenna Sims. Elkhorn South is once again playing a predominately Class A schedule- look for them to be tough and battle-tested late in the season. Seward lost a handful of seniors last year, but will be tough again led by Camryn Opfer, and has the best front court in B. Elkhorn lost Brooke Carlson, but returns plenty of experience lead by Maddy Meehan. Waverly was tough last year, and lost a heartbreaker to Beatrice for a trip to state. Crete has the second best player in Class B in Morgan Maly. Skutt brings in Kip Colony as head coach and will be a team you won’t want to play in February. GINW graduated very little, and should be even better than last year. Beatrice lost Michaela Jones, but look for them to be competitive again with Carley Leners and Addie Barnard leading the way. Sidney returns its top 5 scorers from last year’s state qualifying team, but strength of schedule could hold them back. Hastings returns a lot of players with experience but must replace three guards who started for three years. York was hit hard by graduation, but did add tranfer Maddie Portwine from Cross County. |

Comments: Superior returns Kalynn Meyer and three other starters from State Championship team. HSC is lead by Lexi Vertin and only had one senior last year. OC should be solid with the return of Dacey Nelson and Kennedy Benne both 22 point per game scorers before injury. |
Top 5 teams all return talented players from last years state tournament teams. Blue Hill and GACC make the jump up to C2 from D1 this season with some talented players. |

Papio took care of business and moves up to #3. Westside had a good win Saturday vs #7 Lincoln Northeast. Pius had an impressive weekend beating Fremont and Millard West both by over 20. Lincoln High trailed Papio South by 10 late in the 3rd quarter, but took over down the stretch. LNE, ONW, LSW, Marian all went 1-1 to round out the top 10.
Class B
Week #1 12/4/18
#1) South Sioux City
#2) Seward
#3) Waverly
#4) Elkhorn
#5) Skutt Catholic
#6) Elkhorn South
#7) Crete
#8) Beatrice
#9) Norris
#10) Sidney
First two teams out: GINW, York
Comments: Neither South Sioux or Elkhorn had played a game when these rankings were due. Seward had a good road win at Hastings. Waverly makes a jump to #3 with a very impressive win over a very good GINW team Skutt moves to the #5 spot after a big win over class A Gretna. Elkhorn South remains in the top 10 despite two losses to class A Lincoln Northeast and Northstar- both losses by fewer than 10 points. Crete has been impressive in their two wins. Norris was very dominate in their win over Plattsmouth. Class B needs more time to get a real good feel for the top 10 as it will likely change quite a bit in the next few weeks.

First two teams out: Adams Central, Broken Bow
Comments: Wahoo survives an upset scare by unranked Bennington. Bishop Neumann handles Gretna convincingly to move into the second spot. Malcolm beats Auburn which dropped Auburn; some movement in the rankings based on week 1 results
Class C2

First two teams out: Stanton, Hartington CC
Comments: Lots of games lost because of weather. Stanton loses to D1 Howells-Dodge by 1 point. Hartington CC loses by 13 to Crofton. Clarkson-Leigh got a big win over top teams in D-1 Humphrey. Big games this week include Blue Hill vs. Superior, Blue Hill vs. HSC, Oakland-Craig vs. Clarkson-Leigh and OC vs. Howells-Dodge (D1), Crofton vs. GACC, Stanton vs. West Point-Beemer (C1), Clarkson-Leigh vs. BRLD, and Burwell vs. Ravenna (C1)

Week #2 12/11/18 |
#1) Millard South |
#2) Millard North |
#3) Omaha Northwest |
#4) Westside |
#5) Lincoln Pius X |
#6) Papillion-LaVista |
#7) Lincoln High |
#8) LNE |
#9) Fremont |
#10) Lincoln East |
First Teams Out: Omaha Benson |
Comments: Crazy that after two weeks of games there are only 2 teams still undefeated. Millard South had a good weekend with wins over top 5 teams in Westside and Pius. Millard North handled #7 Lincoln High by 19. Northwest moves up to #3 with their road win at Papio. They get a chance this week to avenge their 1 point loss earlier in the season to Millard South. Westside and Pius both hold steady after losing close games to MS. Papio drops after losing a close one to ONW. Class A appears to drop a bit after the top 6. Lincoln High lost to MN, and will be tested this week vs Lincoln Northeast. LNE is dealing with injuries, but is still very talented. Fremont enters and remains ahead of Lincoln East based on their head to head win to open the year. Omaha Benson is the only other team to receive a vote this week. |
Class B |
Week #2 12/11/18 |
#1) South Sioux City |
#2) Waverly |
#3) Seward |
#4) Skutt Catholic |
#5) Northwest |
#6) Norris |
#7) Crete |
#8) Sidney |
#9) Elkhorn |
#10) Elkhorn South |
First two teams out: Elkhorn, Elkhorn South, York and Bennington |
Comments: SSC keeps the top spot after knocking off previously undefeated Sioux City East. Waverly moves up to #2 with a big win over York. Seward knocked off Northwest and their only loss comes from undefeated Lincoln Christian. Skutt remains undefeated but will have their first test tonight against SSC. Northwest has a good week with wins over Norris and Crete. Norris moves up in the rankings with a win over Elkhorn. Crete has only lost to Northwest, and has been impressive in other games. Sidney has looked good out West, and only loss is to a very good Mitchell team. There was a four way tie for 9th. Elkhorn, Elkhorn South, York and Bennington all tied. We went with the two Elkhorn schools based on talent, and schedue. These two will both be battling at State in March. York and Bennington come in at #11 and #12 as a judgement call. York’s 3 wins come against teams with a combined 1 win. Bennington has a good win over Gross, but lost to NE City. |

#7) Ravenna |
#8) Louisville |
#9) Auburn |
#10) Roncalli Catholic |
First Teams Out: Columbus Scotus, Pierce, GICC |
Comments: Lincoln Christian jumps up to #2 based on their win over Class B Seward. The top six has seemed to seperate themselves from the rest of the pack. There were 15 schools receiving votes this week, 7-10 looks like it will change weekly. |
Class C2 |
Week #2 12/11/18 |
#1) Superior |

#5) Clarkson-Leigh |

#9) BRLD |
#10) Burwell |
First teams out: Bridgeport, Battle Creek |
Comments: The first three spots stay the same. Superior and HSC with good wins over Blue Hill. OC with a good win over Clarkson-Leigh. Some chaos after the top 3 as everyone but Centennial who is yet to be tested takes a loss. Crofton remains fourth despite a loss to Boone Central by beating GACC by 11. Clarkson-Leigh bounces back from loss to OC with an OT win over BRLD. Lourdes CC wins impressive game over Falls City Sacred Heart. Burwell drops a game to Ravenna. |

#4) Papillion-LaVista |
#5) Westside |
#6) LNE |
#7) Lincoln Pius X |
#8) Fremont |
#9) Omaha Benson |
#10) Millard West |
First Teams Out: Lincoln East, Lincoln High |
Comments: Millard South holds steady with their 2nd win over #3 Northwest. Millard North continues to show that they are 1/2 favorites at this point. Northwest isn’t penalized for a road loss to MS. Papio knocks off MW and has only lost to #3 ONW. Westside loses at the buzzer to MW, but has wins over LNE and East. Lincoln Northeast has the best weekend knocking off Lincoln High and Lincoln Pius. Fremont and Benson hold steady, but question marks regarding early schedule remain. Millard West enters after win vs westside, but early season losses to Pius and East keep them at #10. Tough to make sense of class A after the top two teams at this point. |
Class B |
Week #3 12/18/18 |

#5) Elkhorn |

#7) Crete |
#8) Sidney |
#9) Hastings |
#10) Elkhorn South |
First two teams out: Norris, Gross |
Comments: Waverly takes the #1 spot as the only undefeated team left in Class B. Seward wins at Norris, Skutt knocks off SSC, but then falls to Elkhorn- Elkhorn moves up in the rankings for this win. Crete is playing tough right now, but will have a good test this week at Waverly. Elkhorn vs Elkhorn South is a big game this week. |

Comments: Superior, HSC and OC all remain undefeated. Centennial loss moves them out of Top 10. Crofton not punished for 48-42 loss to St. Thomas More, SD, who was 24-4 last year and won state championship. St. Cecilia with an impressive win over Bishop Neumann. Clarkson-Leigh with a narrow win over rival Howells-Dodge. Battle Creek has an impressive win over O’neill . Westside up to #3 after making metro finals, and avenging lost to Millard West. Northwest has only lost to Papio and MS. Fremont gets revenge from the opening weekend vs Pius. Southwest has put together a winning streak to make the HAC finals. Millard West jumps in ahead of Millard North after beating them twice.
