11-21-17 (Pre-Season)
Class A
Week #Preseason
Date 11/21/17
1) Lincoln Southwest- Returning champs with a ton of experience coming back. Hannah Kelle and Jaden Ferguson lead a talented front court. Lots of length gives them the unanimous #1 vote
2) Westside- Guard play is great with top player in class A Quinn Weidemann (Wyoming recruit) and her counter Ella Wedergren. They run their backdoor offense to perfection, and have good post play.
3) Lincoln Northeast – With one of the most athletic guards in the state in McKenna Minter with a year under her belt this team could be dangerous down the stretch. Many girls with significant playing time coming back
4) Millard South–Graduated 3 starters, but return 8 of top 11 from the state runner up team. Maddie Krull leads an athletic cast. More length this year than in the past
5) Millard West –A talented core returns, but questions remain surrounding the health of some key players. The return of Lauren Rongisch is key. This team could be a favorite if healthy down the stretch
6) Lincoln East – With their huge front court returning including South Dakota recruit Regan Sankey, East will make huge improvements throughout as Alli Roh gets her knee stronger. Coach Pritchard always has a good game plan
7) Lincoln Pius – Return a strong core from their state semifinal teams. Always very disciplined, they run their offense to perfection and their high low is tough to stop.
8) Millard North- Guard play is solid throughout their whole line up. They shoot the 3 very well and have a post presence that could hurt a lot of teams, a very talented team.
9) Omaha Benson –The talent is there lead by Quinesha Lockett.
10) Omaha North –Dariauna Lewis returns as they will be looking to take the next step after nearly upsetting eventual state champs LSW in district finals.

Class B
Week #Preseason
Date 11/21/17
1) South Sioux City
2) Elkhorn
3) Seward
4) York
5) Elkhorn South
6) Crete
7) Platteview
8) Gretna
9) Skutt
10) Norris
Comments, observations or reasons for major changes:
SSC is the defending champs, they were hit hard by graduation, but return an elite guard in McKenna Sims, and deserve to start out on top. Overall in class B it is very up in the air with no clear cut favorite. Could be a year when more teams take turns being #1 than any year in recent memory. More teams than ever before moving from top 5 to top ten to being ranked or not. Elkhorn has a very talented front court, Seward and York return a nice core. Elkhorn South will be playing Class A Metro teams most of the season, which should have them ready for a late season run. Platteview has Creighton recruit Brotzki who can keep them in any game. Gretna and Skutt are always tough.
Top Players:
Payton Brotzki (Platteview)
McKenna Sims (SSC)
Brooke Carlson (Elkhorn)
Michaela Jones (Beatrice)
Lauren Riley (York)
Morgan Maly (Crete)
Camryn Opfer (Seward)
Molly Sindelar (Elkhorn South)
Madison Meehan (Elkhorn)
Class C-1
Week #Preseason
Date 11/21/17
1) Lincoln Christian
2) Ord
3) Wahoo
4) Bishop Neumann
5) North Bend Central
6) Lincoln Lutheran
7) Kearney Catholic
8) Malcolm
9) Columbus Scotus
10) Mitchell
Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: Lincoln Christian starts out as #1 as the defending champions. The Crusaders return key players including Chloe Dworak, Emie Hollenbeck and her sister Olivia. Wahoo returns their entire starting lineup and adds 6’2” Minden transfer Kyla Swanson to their team. Ord returns most of their starters and had a great summer.
Top C-1 Players (in no particular order):
Chloe Dworak, Lincoln Christian – Don’t let her size fool you as her efficiency makes up for any lack of height/quickness. It is nearly impossible to guard her all the way from the deep 3-point range, to mid-range, to finishing in the lane.
Emie Hollenbeck, Lincoln Christian – Emie will be extremely important in the LCHS lineup this year on the boards and being a presence in the lane to keep the defense away from stretching too far to the outside shooters.
Hallie Reeves, Wahoo – Hallie is a hard-nosed, get to the basket, win at all costs type of player. She presents a challenge to any defender with the full court skills as well as ability to post up and finish at the basket.
Aspen Jansa, Bishop Neumann – Her speed and ability to finish at the basket with contact will only be added to her ability to shoot the ball outside this year. She is hard to guard and even harder to be guarded against.
Ali Smith, Ord – a great athlete who takes care of business. Makes things happen on both sides of the floor with a motor that doesn’t stop.
Delaney Fahey, Ord
Kylie Hammer, Wayne
Jessina Rada, Bishop Neumann

Comments: This class seems to be wide open to begin the season. Graduation has hit this class hard with several of the top players exiting for college. Ravenna returns several good players from last years state tournament team. Howells-Dodge will have some graduation losses but the state champions should have a strong team again. Ponca returns a good nucleus of their state tournament team. Superior is coming off a state championship volleyball season and will have confidence coming into the season.

Waverly makes a jump to #3 with a very impressive win over a very good GINW team Skutt moves to the #5 spot after a big win over class A Gretna. Elkhorn South remains in the top 10 despite two losses to class A Lincoln Northeast and Northstar- both losses by fewer than 10 points. Crete has been impressive in their two wins. Norris was very dominate in their win over Plattsmouth. Class B needs more time to get a real good feel for the top 10 as it will likely change quite a bit in the next few weeks.

#7) Lincoln Northeast |
#8) Pius |
#9) Marian |
#10) Benson |
First two teams out: Fremont, Northwest |
Comments: Top 5 was unanimous on all coaches rankings. Millard South returns all but 8ppg from last years state runner up team including two of the best in the state in Maddie Krull and Jayme Horan. Millard North returns every one from last years team and has the most talented team in state from top to bottom. Lincoln Southwest returns the majority of it’s team from last year and is lead by Hannah Kelle and Jaden Ferguson. Papillion returns the bulk of their scoring from a team that was seconds away from the state semis. Westside returns quite a bit from their state championship team, but did lose Gatorade POY Quinn Weidemann. They will look much stronger in February once they are 100% healthy. Lincoln High returns a strong core from last years state tourney team, lead by Nyayongah Gony and added transfer Kaysia Woods (Lincoln Northeast). Lincoln Northeast has a strong senior class and does get All State guard McKenna Minter back from a knee injury. Lincoln Pius is always tough and has strong post play. Marian looks to continue to make strides they have a good nucleus of sophomores and juniors. Benson is very talented lead by Quinesha Lockett. Fremont is lead by Emma Shepard and has a very strong Freshman class, but may be a year or two away. Northwest returns a vast majority of their team from last year and will pull some upsets. |

#3) Seward |
#4) Elkhorn |
#5) Waverly |
#6) Crete |
#7) Omaha Skutt |
#8) GINW |
#9) Beatrice |
#10) Sidney |
First two teams out: Hastings, York Comments: The top three teams were all listed 1-3 on all ballots, a total of 15 schools received votes. Class B will be very competitive again this year SSC returns nearly everyone from last year’s state runner-up team including senior all-state PG McKenna Sims. Elkhorn South is once again playing a predominately Class A schedule- look for them to be tough and battle-tested late in the season. Seward lost a handful of seniors last year, but will be tough again led by Camryn Opfer, and has the best front court in B. Elkhorn lost Brooke Carlson, but returns plenty of experience lead by Maddy Meehan. Waverly was tough last year, and lost a heartbreaker to Beatrice for a trip to state. Crete has the second best player in Class B in Morgan Maly. Skutt brings in Kip Colony as head coach and will be a team you won’t want to play in February. GINW graduated very little, and should be even better than last year. Beatrice lost Michaela Jones, but look for them to be competitive again with Carley Leners and Addie Barnard leading the way. Sidney returns its top 5 scorers from last year’s state qualifying team, but strength of schedule could hold them back. Hastings returns a lot of players with experience but must replace three guards who started for three years. York was hit hard by graduation, but did add tranfer Maddie Portwine from Cross County. |

Comments: Superior returns Kalynn Meyer and three other starters from State Championship team. HSC is lead by Lexi Vertin and only had one senior last year. OC should be solid with the return of Dacey Nelson and Kennedy Benne both 22 point per game scorers before injury. |
Top 5 teams all return talented players from last years state tournament teams. Blue Hill and GACC make the jump up to C2 from D1 this season with some talented players. |

Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: Class B had a wild week across the state. Elkhorn stays at #1 based on overall schedule, even after their OT loss @ Aurora. Seward gets a slight edge over Waverly comparing common opponents, and will be tested over the next week. Gretna defeated Platteview, but lost to York who Platteview defeated less than two weeks ago. Aurora jumps in at #7 with recent wins over Elkhorn and Gretna. SSC went 2-1 on the week, with the loss coming to class A Norfolk. Elkhorn South gets revenge on class A Omaha North defeating them by 20 points. Sidney has a good record, but strength of schedule remains a question.

Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: Ord takes over the top spot after a Lincoln Christian loss in OT to class C2 Hastings St. Cecilia. Teams #4-#6 are tough to rank as they seem very similar. Wahoo picked up a nice victory over class B Crete. GICC enters at #10 this week. Top games this week: Grand Island CC at York, Lincoln Lutheran at Elmwood-Murdock, Lincoln Christian at Columbus Scotus, Platteview at Wahoo.

9. Archbishop Bergan (11-1)
10. Hartington Cedar Catholic (8-2)
Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: HSC stakes it’s claim for #1 with a thrilling victory over class C1 Lincoln Christian. Superior continues to roll, Stanton isn’t penalized for losing to Oakland-Craig, who then lost to Elmwood-Murdock who is next in line to be ranked. Tough to drop Crofton far after losing to Class B South Sioux City. Ravenna has three losses, but has played a very tough schedule. Not much separation in this class after the top two teams. Archbishop Bergan may be one of the best teams In C2, and will have the opportunity to prove it as there strength of schedule picks up in January. Top games this week: HSC vs Kearney Catholic, O-C vs BRLD, NPSP vs Mullen, E-M vs Lincoln Lutheran

2-10-18 (Week 10)
Class A
Week #10
Date 2/6/18
1) Lincoln East (16-3)
2) Millard South (17-2)
3) Westside (16-2)
4) Millard North (17-2)
5) Papillion La-Vista (15-5)
6) Fremont (11-5)
7) Lincoln Pius X (12-6)
8) Lincoln Southwest (12-7)
9) Omaha Benson (11-7)
10) Lincoln Northeast (13-6)
Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: Lincoln East moves to #1 after Westside falls to Northwest. East barely edges out Millard South based on head to head. Millard South had a good week with road wins over Fremont & Benson. Millard North has won six straight, but will be tested the final four games of the regular season. Papillion La-Vista is in at #5 based on overall body of work. Fremont has LNE, Pius and MN as three of their next four games. Pius had a good win at Marian, Southwest has East and Pius back to back this week giving them the chance to climb up the rankings. Omaha Benson enters after defeating LNE. LNE stays in at #10 based on full resume (3 wins over top 7 teams). Many big games this week, expect a shakeup in the top ten.
Class B
Week #10
Date 2/6/18
1) Seward (16-3)
2) Elkhorn (19-2)
3) Platteview (18-3)
4) South Sioux City (16-4)
5) Waverly (13-7)
6) York (13-6)
7) Gretna (12-6)
8) Elkhorn South (8-12)
9) Sidney (18-3)
10) Crete (12-9)
Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: Seward, Elkhorn, Platteview, SSC and Waverly have emerged as the head of the pack but slightly for now. York also is right with the top group. Gretna has a couple close losses, but could just have easily won them and be at the top. Elkhorn South is dangerous and will want to be avoided come post season play. Sidney is #9 based on their 18-3 record. Crete and Hastings were tied for #10, so a different class B coach broke the tie giving the nod to Crete.
Class C-1
Week #10
Date 2/6/18

2) Lincoln Christian (16-3)
3) Bishop Neumann (16-3)
4) Mitchell (22-0)

7) Scotus (15-5)
8) Lincoln Lutheran (14-6)
9) Auburn (16-4)
10) North Bend Central (15-4)
Comments, observations or reasons for major changes: Lincoln Christian jumps up to #2 based on their win over Bishop Neumann creating the only change in the rankings this week. Neumann stays ahead of Mitchell based on their Centennial Conference Tournament Championship; Contenders include Hershey, Louisville, Milford and Conestoga.
Class C2
Week #10
Date 2/6/18
1. Hastings St Cecilia (17-2)—close call with L-L and Adams Central but two wins
2. Superior (20-1)—won six in a row since Lincoln Christian loss
3. Ravenna (17-4)—lost to Ord by 12 in conference tourney
4. North Platte St Pats (19-2)—four wins in a row
5. BRLD (17-4)—EHC champs; good wins over Stanton and NBC
6. Stanton (17-3)—two losses including BRLD
7. Archbishop Bergan (15-4)—3-3 in last six games but losses are all to very good teams
8. South Loup (16-3)—their 3 losses are to Pleasanton (19-1) and A-L (18-2) (twice)
9. Hartington-Newcastle (17-3) lost to Ponca by 20
10. Crofton (12-8)—good win over GACC; loss to Pierce in conference final by 4
Comments, observations or reasons for changes: BRLD jumps in the rankings for their conference tournament championship. Ravenna not punished for losing to undefeated and C1 Ord. Stanton drops 2 games in their conference tournament to fall slightly. Hartington-Newcastle was upset in the semifinals of their conference tournament to fall slightly. The #10 spot is up for grabs. Crofton earns the nod based on strength of schedule. They avenged an earlier loss to ONeill (winning by 22) and then beat a good GACC team.
Class: D1
Week: 10
Date: 2/6/18
1. BDS (19-2)
2. Pleasanton (19-1)
3. Friend (18-3)
4. GACC (15-6)

7. North Central (17-3)
8. Meridian (18-3)
9. Humphrey/LHF (17-4)
10. Clarkson-Leigh (13-6)
Comments, observations or reasons for changes: The top 2 remain the same as they both continue to win. Pleasanton had a very nice victory over Elm Creek in the Conference Championship. BDS closes the season this week with a top 10 matchup against Meridian. Friend wins their conference and beats FCSH handily, causing their move up to #3 in the rankings as they are playing great basketball and are on a roll. GACC drops one spot after losing to Crofton in conference tournament. Ansley-Litchfield holds at 5 as they continue to win and had a nice conference tournament win the previous week over South Loup. West Holt jumps into the ratings after winning the NVC tourney with 4 solid wins including 3 over Elgin/PJ, Ewing and North Central. North Central falls after their loss to West Holt in the championship. Meridian falls to #8 but has a big week to prove to teams with games against Friend and BDS. Humphrey/LHF loses to champion BRLD in EHC conference tournament and Clarkson-Leigh re-enters after a 1-1 week, going 2-1 in conference tourney.

Comments, observations or reasons for change: Hyannis moves up a spot after a loss by Ewing. Wynot drops after a couple of losses but stays in the ratings because of strength of schedule. CWC drops out and Wauneta-Palisade jumps up to 9. Sacred Heart does not drop after a loss to Friend in the Pioneer conference championship.
2-19-18 (District Predictions)
Class A District Final Predictions 2/19/18
A-1 Millard South and Millard West— Millard South
A-2 Westside and Benson—Omaha Westside
A-3 Millard North and Norfolk— Millard North
A-4 Lincoln East and Marian— Lincoln East
A-5 Lincoln Pius and Lincoln High— Lincoln High
A-6 Papio and Fremont— Papillion-LaVista
A-7 Lincoln Northeast and Lincoln Southwest— Lincoln Southwest
A1 and A2 appear to be the toughest districts as they both have three teams who have the talent to win the district. It will be very difficult to beat Millard South or Westside on their home court, and both #1 seeds will advance. A3- Norfolk and Omaha North should be the best game in that district, with Norfolk getting the slight edge as they are a different team when they are at home, but Millard North ultimately wins their district. A4- Lincoln East is tough to beat anywhere, but it will be too much for a young Marian team to win in Lincoln. A5- Lincoln High, Pius and Kearney all received votes to win this district, but the coaches ultimately voted Lincoln High to win at Pius. A6- Voting was also split between Papio and Fremont, but the Monarchs received one more vote based on home court, this district will be tight. A7- They say it’s tough to beat a good team three times and for Southwest to advance to state they will have to finish the season sweep over Lincoln Northeast, and to do so on the Rockets home court. This should be a very entertaining game with LSW getting the slight nod based on prior results.
Class B District Final Predictions 2/17/18
B1: Sidney over Roncalli
B2: Seward over Crete
B3: Elkhorn over Norris
B4: Platteview over Aurora
B5: South Sioux City over Alliance
B6: York over Hastings
B7: Waverly over Beatrice
B8: Elkhorn South over Gretna
B6, B7, B8 are all very interesting matchups and should come down to the wire.
